Acne vulgaris is a common skin problem that is experienced by almost everyone, once in a lifetime. It majorly occurs in the form of inflammatory nodules on facial skin. It can also occur on other parts of the body. In simple words, it is a bad form of pimple. It occurs in the skin areas where there are most sebaceous follicles. Pimple is a general problem among adolescents and gets cured with the application of ointments, creams, lotions and oral medicines when needed. But, when a pimple is ignored or does not respond to regular treatments, it takes the form of acne vulgaris.
There are numerous factors responsible for this. One of the factors is nature of the skin. Oily skinned people are more subjected to this problem, since the sebum secretion in them is more than other skin types. This is because of Androgen, a hormone producing sebum. There are other factors also, that lead to sebum production. As a result, the skin pores get closed causing pimples to burst out of the skin. Later in some cases, when nothing works on them, they look like little wounds containing pus inside. They are now called as acne vulgaris. The pus further grows and makes its permanent place in the skin. They pain and sometimes, even blood oozes out of them. The problem can be so serious that even after they are cured or the treatment is over, scars remain there.
Acne vulgaris can happen to anybody who reaches adolescence. It is said to be more prevalent among male teenagers than in female ones. Among adults, women complain more of this problem than males. Acne vulgaris can also be seen among new-borns or infants, due to mother’s hormones. Acne vulgaris not only shows as a physical problem but also as a psychological trouble for most of the people. Because of this, some people even develop inferior complex. They need not worry as fortunately today, there is a wide range of treatments available to cure this skin menace.
